Even though the baseline metabolic rate difference between a 16 year old and a 60 year old isn’t too crazy, it’s the rest of the daily activities that matter. This is why you see in shape kids and heavy adults, but also see heavy kids and in shape adults.
You make a good point there too. Sometimes the body doesn’t recover super well from pushing to walk 5+ miles a day so the brain convinces you to rest more and use less energy in other aspects of life which makes a big difference, even if you’re consistently doing that 10k.
