Fat Shaming Success Stories

One of the biggest reasons I’ve been able to get in shape and stay that way was due to shamelessly unfiltered fat shaming.
You hear people talk about how it’s such a bad thing…
…but it’s caused many men to get their act together, eat better, hit the gym, and get in shape.
I started taking this whole fitness thing seriously when my grandma came to visit and called my face fat.
Just like that.
It was my wake up call.
And even in recent years, Martha has said to me:
“Nice muffins”
Referring to my lower back fat which is always the last to go when I’m dieting.
Now I could have cried in a corner and said “why me?” which is what seems to be the expected outcome of fat shaming…
But instead it lights a fire under me and keeps me motivated to stay on track.
(and if my own wife can’t tell me the truth, who will?)
Further proof shaming gets people to take action:
Years back, this guy Jamie Brooks dropped a ton of weight.
While I’d argue his normally unsustainable, ridiculously aggressive approach was not ideal…
He was able to lose nearly 300 pounds in one year.
The catalyst?
His friend texted him “fat fuck” every day for a month and a half.
Let me be clear here:
I’m not saying people should start being mean or malicious or start sending their friends a text like that, because shaming done poorly can have the inverse effect.
But sometimes a wake up call is necessary.
For most people?
It can be as simple as an honest look at their front and side profile in the mirror.
I know that keeps me motivated at least.
And on that note…
