How To Figure Out How Many Calories To Eat (3 Simple Ways)

Yesterday, I got a question from an Inner Circle member:

“I was looking through previous messages looking for calories needed. You talk about “finding” total calories needed in a day. How do we determine that?”

My response was as follows:

“Great question! Here are a couple good ways:

The OmniCalculator page for the Harris Benedict Formula (click advanced mode) lets you enter in all your info to get a pretty accurate starting point.

Use MyFitnessPal to calculate daily calories. I’m 98.7% sure it uses the same formula but it’s convenient due to being built into the free calorie tracker app

You can also do 15 x BW (in pounds) for a rough starting point then subtract 500, but that doesn’t factor in daily activity variability all that well from person to person so I don’t recommend that.”

Technology is so cool these days because you can just fill out a basic form and get information that could change your life.

It sure did for me way back in 2012 and the MyFitnessPal app formula wasn’t as accurate back then as it is now.

I even wrote a whole newsletter in the past about the fact that if you have a smartphone, there’s no reason you can’t be in shape.
