I Almost Quit Working Out…
It was the summer of 2015 and I recently hit back to back PRs on the squat and the bench press.
350lbs and 265lbs respectively.
I was hyped to say the least.
But less than a full week later, I nearly quit lifting weights altogether…
Here’s what happened:
I was running a very intense program where I’d squat and bench 3 days per week, and deadlift only on the 3rd day.
And for each of these days, after warming up I would do 7 sets of 1 rep, with each rep getting heavier and heavier until I got to 95% of my one rep max.
If that rep was a personal record, I’d be done with that exercise.
If not, I’d do 2 additional sets of 2 reps with 90% of the heaviest weight of the day.
Ater that, I’d move on to the next exercise and do the whole process all over again.
Tough, but fairly simple.
And it got me strong really quick.
But here’s where I messed up…
I was also training back, shoulders, and arms 3 days per week in between those 3 sessions per week.
So I was training hard 6 days per week with heavy weights and really focusing on adding more weight to the bar.
