If Your Workout Program Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It…

Back when I was managing a gym, one of the most common things I heard was some variation of:

“I gotta switch up my workout”

And there are valid reasons for changing things up like if you’re no longer enjoying it, noticing weird aches and pains that aren’t usually there, if your training is feeling stale, or if it’s a downright bad program.

But if it’s because you’re not seeing results…

It’s a good idea to ask yourself some questions about your workout program first:

Are you focusing on compound exercises like presses, rows, vertical pulls, and squat and deadlift type movements?

Are you increasing weight or reps on a consistent basis?

Are you training close to muscular failure?

Are you sticking to the program every week?

Have you been doing the program for at least 12 weeks?

If even one of those is answered with a “no” then address that first.
