The Real Benefit Of Increasing Your Step Count Is Neat

While I’m not big on doing dedicated cardio sessions for improving your physique, one of the easiest ways to get in better shape is by increasing your daily average step count.

This act is technically considered non-exercise activity thermogenesis or NEAT because simply walking more in the way I’ll describe isn’t classified as exercise.

I find funny because it is pretty NEAT how it all works.

Ha, get it?

Lame jokes aside, let me give you an example of how this works based on my own stats of being 34 years old at 5'11" and 163lbs.

3,000 steps = ~125 calories burned
5,000 steps = ~200 calories burned
10,000 steps = ~400 calories burned

Going from an average of 3,000 to 5,000 steps to burn an extra 75 calories per day doesn’t seem like much, but you’ll lose an extra half a pound of fat per month.

And if you average 10k steps, that’s an extra 2.4 pounds lost per month compared to 3k steps.

(keep in mind this is at my height and weight, so if you’re lighter you’ll burn less and if heavier you’ll burn more)

The cool thing is you don’t have to go to the gym for hours to ramp up this step count…
