The Weight Loss Blessing And Curse Of The Whoosh Effect
There’s this weird phenomenon in the human body where you’ll start retaining water and glycogen while dieting and it seems like you’re not losing any weight, even if you’re eating perfectly.
Then one random day you won’t feel any different physically, but you’ll wake up considerably lighter on the scale.
This is known as the woosh effect.
The weird thing about this is it seems no one in the physiology field can agree on what it is or why it happens…
But it sure does.
That said…
On one hand, this woosh effect thing can be quite frustrating…
You’re showing up to your workouts, pushing harder than last time, and maybe even noticing a bit more muscle.
You’re eating right, sticking to your calorie goal, and looking leaner in the mirror…
But the scale just won’t budge, or maybe it’s even going up.
The human mind is a weird place sometimes, because despite there being physical evidence of progress, the number on the scale can still dictate your mental state.
