What 6 Years Of Skateboarding Taught Me About Lifting Weights
Growing up, I played a whole lot of video games, and one of my favorites was Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater on the N64 because I just thought it was so cool.
It wasn’t long before I asked my mom to buy me a skateboard at somewhere around 11 years old.
I ended up getting a Variflex skateboard from Toys R Us, and I was off to the races.
Or so I thought I would be…
I tried using it, fell a few times, realized I had no idea how to do what they could do in the videogame or ‘trick tip’ VHS tapes I also got, and my interest in the physical act of skateboarding waned.
It wasn’t until a couple years later when I switched school districts before entering 7th grade where I started taking it more seriously.
The new school had a fully fledged skate park a 2 minute walk down the street.
A bunch of kids would go there right after the final bell rang and skate until their parents got out of work.
So naturally I joined in and made some friends fast.
