When You’re Feeling Beat Up From Your Workouts, Try This…

I’ve talked about recovering from your workouts a lot over the years, and for good reason.

The better you can recover, the better your future workouts will be.

And the more high quality workouts you have across the year, the better your results will be.

Which brings me to what I want to bring up today.

One thing not enough people talk about is the practice of deload weeks, which are incredibly helpful for better performance and keeping injury risk so much lower.

All you gotta do is lift less total weight for fewer reps (or even sets) than you normally do for a whole week.

No pushing to get bigger or stronger.

Just enough to move your muscles through a full range of motion then get out.

For example, instead of doing a full effort 10–12 rep set of chin ups…

I’d do something like 6–8 reps on a deload week.

And I’d apply this same concept across all my exercises.

Then I’d start building my way back up week to week.

Most good workout programs have some form of deload weeks or lighter workouts designed to boost your recovery so you can lift more weight over time.
