Why Is It So Hard To Get In Shape?
This might sound crazy, but not all that long ago there was a time where being in shape was so much easier than it is today.
Think about this for a second:
In the US today, over 40% of adults are medically obese.
But if you look back to 1950…
That number goes all the way down to 10%.
What gives?
Well, considering I wasn’t born until the very end of the 80s, I can’t give any personal insight of what happened in the 50s…
But I can share what I think contributed to the massive uptick on the average weight on the scale in recent times.
1. People are moving less on average
I grew up in the 90s and 2000s, and my days were full of (literally) running around, playing basketball in the driveway, riding bikes, family walks, skateboarding, pretending to be a ninja, and a multitude of team sports I signed up for or was signed up for by my mom.
Sure, I played a fair bit of video games on the SNES or Gameboy and had family movie nights where we went to Blockbuster and rented a few VHS tapes…
But most of my fun was highly active endeavors.
Even at school, recess meant jungle gym time and gym class was filled with fun…
