Why Is It So Hard To Get In Shape?

This might sound crazy, but not all that long ago there was a time where being in shape was so much easier than it is today.

Think about this for a second:

In the US today, over 40% of adults are medically obese.

But if you look back to 1950…

That number goes all the way down to 10%.

What gives?

Well, considering I wasn’t born until the very end of the 80s, I can’t give any personal insight of what happened in the 50s…

But I can share what I think contributed to the massive uptick on the average weight on the scale in recent times.

1. People are moving less on average

I grew up in the 90s and 2000s, and my days were full of (literally) running around, playing basketball in the driveway, riding bikes, family walks, skateboarding, pretending to be a ninja, and a multitude of team sports I signed up for or was signed up for by my mom.

Sure, I played a fair bit of video games on the SNES or Gameboy and had family movie nights where we went to Blockbuster and rented a few VHS tapes…

But most of my fun was highly active endeavors.

Even at school, recess meant jungle gym time and gym class was filled with fun…
